Thy Kingdom Come Bible Study

God is Compassionate Bible Study

Out of his compassion for humanity, God provided forgiveness and salvation.  In Psalm 78:38, the Word of God says, “But he, being full of compassion, forgave their iniquity and destroyed them not.”  In 1 John 1:9 the Word says, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us of our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”  To be compassionate means to feel sorrow for someone else’s suffering, with a desire to help.  In Romans 5:8, Gods Word says, “But God commandeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners Christ died for us.”

In Psalm 86:15, the Word declares, “But thou, O Lord, art a God full of compassion, and gracious, long-suffering, and plenteous in mercy and truth.”  In Matthew 9:36 Jesus shows his compassion: “But when he saw the multitudes he was moved with compassion on them because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.”

Jesus preached the gospel to the poor, proclaimed freedom for the prisoners and recovering of sight for the blind and released the oppressed (Luke 4:18).  Again, in Mark 1:40-42, Jesus was moved with compassion. “And there came a leper to him, beseeching him, and kneeling down to him, and saying unto him, If thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.  And Jesus moved with compassion put forth his hand and touched him and saith unto him, I will; be thou clean.  And as soon as he had spoken, immediately the leprosy departed from him and he was cleansed.”   Jesus wants and expects this attitude to characterize his followers.  In Matthew 18:33, Jesus said, “Shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy fellow servant, even as I had pity on thee?”

Jesus in his love and compassion looks beyond our faults and sees our need then reaches out to minister to them. 

Let God be God Bible Study

“God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that He is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands; neither is worshipped with men’s hands, as though he needed anything, seeing He giveth to all life and breath to all things; and hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth and hath determined the times before appointed and the bounds of their habitation; that they should seek the Lord if haply they might feel after him and find him, though he be not far from every one of us: for in him we live and move and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.” Acts 17:24-38

“And the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.” John 1:14

“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.  In all thy ways acknowledge him and he shall direct thy paths.  Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord and depart from evil.” Proverbs 3:5-7.

Our Greatest Need and God’s Greatest Delight Bible Study

Each day that we are blessed to live we seek to fulfill our needs.  We enjoy being with those who love and appreciate us - our families and friends.  We work hard to have the riches of this world, whether it be a nice home, or car, or money in the bank.

But so often we forget to be still and acknowledge God.  Without Jesus we have nothing and our life is lived in vanity.  Our greatest need is to know the Lord our God and to enjoy the fellowship of his presence. 

Jesus reveals himself to his people through his word and by His Spirit.  The Lord desires for us to love him with all our heart, all our soul, all our strength and all our mind. (Luke 10:27).  When we draw nigh to God he will draw nigh to us.  (James 4:8) “The LORD looked down from heaven upon the children of men to see if there were any that did understand and seek God.” Psalm 14:2

As we begin to acknowledge God for all he is and all He has done and love Him as Lord then we experience the blessing and pleasure of his presence as we fellowship with Him.  We then begin to understand God’s ways, his character and his truth.

God declares in his word in Proverbs 8:17 “I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me.”  Also, in Proverbs 8:3, God’s word says, “For whoso findeth me findeth life, and shall obtain favor of the Lord.” The Lord said in Psalm 37:4,5, “Delight thyself also in the Lord…trust also in Him; and he shall bring it to pass.”

When we know God and have experienced his love and grace and have known his redemption from our sins, we glory in knowing him.  We glory because we understand and know Him that He is the “Lord which exercise loving kindness, judgment and righteousness in the earth: for in these things I delight saith the Lord."  Jeremiah 9:24
